FLAG DAY 2015

FLAG DAY 2015

Old Glory proudly rises toward the top of the flagpole at Edmonds City Park on Sunday as members of Edmonds Post 8870 of the VFW render honors. Left to right, Al Starkenburg, Phil Sacks, John Shelton, Mike Denton (partially obscured), Carl Kurfess, Post Commander James Blossey, Terry Crabtree, Edmonds Mayor Dave Earling and Les Abel.

Ninety-nine years ago then President of the United States, Woodrow Wilson, proclaimed June 14 as Flag Day. It commemorates the adoption of the Stars and Stripes in 1777. Edmonds Post 8870 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars marked the event on Sunday, June 14, by lowering the weathered existing flag in Edmonds City Park and raising a new and larger one in its place.
