SUMMARY:Memorial Day Observance
DESCRIPTION:Our usual Memorial Day observance at the Edmonds Memorial Cemetery will not be held this year because of COVID crowding concerns\, but VFW Post 8870\, with American Legion Post 66 will conduct a small Memorial Day Ceremony at the Edmonds Veterans Plaza at 1:00 pm on Monday\, May 31. We will be recognizing the installation of sixteen new veterans’ pavers at the ceremony\, perhaps including yours. Due to COVID restrictions\, we are not advertising the ceremony to the general public\, but only inviting our membership\, friends and families. There will be a VFW honor guard and our Post Chaplain\, Vietnam veteran Navy Corpsman Dan Doyle\, who served with the Marines at the siege of Khe Sanh in 1968\, will be our speaker. The ceremony will conclude with the playing of taps.\n\n \n\nThe Edmonds Veterans plaza is located at 5th Ave. N. and Bell St\, adjacent to the Edmonds Public Safety building.

DESCRIPTION:Edmonds Community College invites everyone to the Sixth Annual Memorial Day Ceremony with wreath laying on Wednesday\, May 22nd\, 2019 from 10:30 AM-12:00 PM at the Campus’ BlackBox Theater. \nThis year we’ll be marking the 75th Anniversary of the DDay Invasion of Normandy. \nEach year we come together on the Wednesday before Memorial Day to reflect on the price paid for our freedom\, and to show our gratitude to the families of the fallen as well as those still living who are connected to our Armed Forces in some way. \nWe hope you will join us for this special event that has become a time-honored tradition on our campus. People from across our campus and community come together to create our Memorial Day Ceremony. Local Girl Scout Troops from Lynnwood and Mukilteo place flags along our procession route between the theater and the Boots to Books Monument where we’ll lay a wreath created by Linda Toccoli from our Campus Horticulture Department. \nOur Master of Ceremonies will be Jon Ramer\, USAF (Ret.). We will have speeches from our College President and the Mayor of Lynnwood\, as well as one of our student veterans\, a retired US Army Apache Helicopter Pilot. Musical performances by Native American Flautist Peter Ali\, Bugler Glenn Ledbetter and Bagpiper Toby Beard are also featured.

SUMMARY:Dedication of K-9 Memorial Statue
DESCRIPTION:K9 Soldier sculpture which has been donated and is to be installed in the EVP. This statue was funded and designed by the “Off Leash dog Group”\, who raised the funds to pay for the it outside the primary Plaza funding effort controlled by VFW Post 8870\, to recognize the role played in our wars by the K9 teams. The dog sculpture is life size and will be installed on the existing “paver slab” on the east side of the south paver path\, perpendicular to the two seating cubes. \nThe K-9 Memorial is to be dedicated in a brief ceremony on Saturday\, October 21 at 1:00 PM at the Plaza.

The Honor Guard from Lynnwood VFW Post 1040 will present the colors. \nThe celebration is for the entire community\, not just students\, and veterans are especially invited to attend. The college has particularly encouraged VFW members to be there.
