District 1 Memorial

District 1 Memorial

On Feb 10, VFW District 1 held its annual Memorial Service at the Post 2100 facility in Everett.

The District Memorial Service is a joint endeavor between the District VFW and Auxiliary. As a group, we pause to honor those VFW and Auxiliary Members who passed on during the previous year. We say the names of our departed and lay symbolic flowers in their honor.

In attendance were the National Sr. Vice Commander of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, the Department Sr. Vice Commander, the Department Jr. Vice Commander, and the District 5 Commander.

For some of us, everyday is Memorial Day. In the photo at right, VFW Post 8870 Commander Duane Bowen and Aux. Pres. Jo Boyett were on hand to honor our own members lost this past year.

Post Auxiliary Activities

Our fine Post 8870 Auxiliary unit has been busy this fall and holiday season.

Post Auxiliary

They participated in our semi-annual poppy drive with their own distribution point at the the Edmonds Waterfront Center. Patsy Ethridge-Neal is shown at right staffing that poppy location.

Our Auxiliary also participated in the 2023 Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contest. The annual contest began in 1979 and recognizes up-and-coming artists and encourages patriotism in youth. More than 2,500 students submitted entries and a total of $33,000 in national scholarships were awarded to 13 students in 2023.

And, of course Jo Boyett (shown at left) was on hand to help with set up and decorate for our annual Christmas party.

Keep up the good work, Auxiliary!
