VFW Conducts Flag Ceremony at Senior Center Ribbon Cutting

VFW Conducts Flag Ceremony at Senior Center Ribbon Cutting

On Thursday, May 12, members of The VFW Honor Guard were joined by Commander Carl Kurfess, Past Commander Mike Denton and Post member Charlie Gaul to conduct the initial flag ceremony at the ribbon cutting ceremonies of the Edmonds Waterfront Center, on Railroad Ave. You may recall that the flagpole was fundeed by our Post, two other veterans organizations and some individual donations. It is dedicated to honor all veterans.

The Honor Guard members present included our own Surgeon, Bryan Rowe and post member Gerald Burton, as well as one other from Lynnwood.

Prior to the posting of the colors, bagpiper Patrick Downing set the mood with his rendition of America the Beautiful. (We are assured that the National Anthem is just not possible on bagpipe!)

Notes from the Auxiliary

by Valerie Ehlers

At the November District 1 meeting I met Department VFW Commander Linda Fairbank and received one of her pins. I also met Department President Ruth Lamoureux and Department Junior Vice President Marjorie Stetson. All the Auxiliaries were thanked for all the hard work we’ve done this year. Membership goals were discussed and we were told that we will be getting a new auxiliary in the district very soon! We contributed 10 hygiene kits for homeless veterans to District President Mary Davenport along with some other auxiliaries. We also gave some extra supplies that could be used in making more kits.

We have set up our display in the lobby of Edmonds Senior Center. Come by, take a look, and let me know your thoughts about it. You can call me at 206-853-5673, or send me an email at [email protected] .

We are always happy to welcome new members to the Edmonds Auxiliary to VFW Post 8870. If you are interested in joining us, give a call or send an email to Valerie at the phone number or email address above.

Merry Christmas and a Happy and Blessed New Year to you all! We look forward to seeing everyone at our January meeting!

Post Changes Meeting Location

After many years of meeting at the Edmonds Senior Center, the Post has elected to change its meeting location to American Legion Post 66’s home at 117 6th Avenue S.. You can take a look at the new location by going to http://mapq.st/1sOd4al since I was unable to print a map for you. Or to put it in a different perspective, go one block east (up the hill) from the traffic circle on Main St. and 5th and turn right on 6th Ave. There is a large American Legion sign and a flag pole with an American and POW/MIA flag flying. Everything else i.e. time, cost of meals, etc. will remain the same, only the location is changing. For those of you who don’t mind walking a bit, please leave any open parking spots that are close to the hall open for those who aren’t as mobile.
