The business session of the Post meeting, was attended by District Commander Otis Wolf, who acted as the installing officer, swearing in the 2022-23 Post officers.
As announced in the April newsletter, all of our 2021-22 elected officers were re-elected with the exception of Cal Barnard, who is succeeding our long time Quartermaster, Dennis Peterson. Dennis has chosen to “retire” from that important Post job. Please join us in thanking Dennis for his long service to the post!
At the Post meeting on April 20, elections will be held for our Post officer slate for the 2022-23 VFW year commencing July 1.
The following candidates are proposed by the nominating committee:
Commander: Carl F. Kurfess Sr. Vice Commander: Duane Bowman Jr. Vice Commander: Rose Gilliland Quartermaster: Cal Barnard Chaplain: Dan Doyle 1st Year Trustee: Kerry Watkins 2nd Year Trustee: Donald Stapleton 3rd Year Trustee: Mike Denton
All of these candidates are presently serving in these positions with the exception of Cal Barnard, who is running to replace long time Quartermaster Dennis Peterson, who wished to pass the baton after something close to ten years of service.
Yes, we’re back. After more than an year of COVID quarantine, we will once again be meeting at the Edmonds American Legion Hall. We are still in the phase of needing to keep the hall at 50 percent capacity, but do not anticipate a problem, since our regular Post meetings rarely approach that number of attendees.
We expect members attending in person to be masked and to maintain social distancing. We are not yet able to serve meals again, so plan on supper before or after the meeting.
If you are not yet vaccinated, or just not comfortable attending in person, to sign in to participate via Zoom. (A link will be sent to your email) The Post has invested in new equipment to better facilitate that option and we expect to continue to provide it going forward. We look forward to seeing all of our comrades once again.
We have one very important item of business on the agenda for this meeting; the annual election of Post Officers. The current officers have proposed a slate of officers for the coming year, which is shown on the following page and, of course nominations from the floor will be accepted.
If you are interested in serving in any of these positions, you may place your own name in nomination. Please do not nominate anyone else unless you have obtained that person’s permission to do so in advance. If you wish to serve in an appointed position, there may be some currently listed who would be interested in a relief. See the new Commander after elections if you would like to offer your services.

At the September Post meeting, long time Post Adjutant Dick Simmons announced his resignation from that position due to chronic health issues that will not allow him to continue. Simmons, is a “Blue Water” Navy veteran of Vietnam and a retired Seattle P.I. newspaper writer.
Commander Rose Gilliland has appointed Jim Murdock as our new Adjutant. Murdock is an Army veteran of Vietnam and has been our House Committee Chair for the past few years. We thank Dick for his long service to the post and wish him better health.
The Post Adjutant is responsible, among other things, for minutes of Post and Staff meetings.
