VFW/Legion Christmas Party

by Duane Bowman

VFW/Legion Christmas Party

Our annual Christmas Party held on Saturday December 16 was a great success.

Thanks go out to Dan Mullene and American Legion Post 66 for co-hosting the event. Special thanks to my two decorating elves from our Auxiliary, Jo Boyett and Patsy Ethridge-Neal for all their hard work.

Great food and conversation were had plus we raised $500 from raffle items that was split with the American Legion.

We also raised $4,290 from our raffle of Michael Reagan’s Seahawks Legend poster. In addition, Michael did a special presentation to Michelle Clyborne of a portrait of her father, who served in the Special Forces in Vietnam.

We collected a lot of toys and food which I delivered to the Edmonds Food Bank by with the assistance of Quartermaster Joe Gray, to add to those already delivered from the collection at Teri’s Toybox, the downtown Edmonds toy store.

The Legion’s winter clothing Drive also received a lot of donations. The generosity of both the VFW and American Legion members is amazing!

If you weren’t able to make it to the party, we hope to see you there next year!

Christmas Toy Drive

Christmas Toy Drive

Edmonds VFW Post 8870 has once again arranged to collect toys at “Teri’s Toybox” (420 Main St in downtown Edmonds) to benefit the Edmonds Food Bank’s Toy Shop program for families in need. We have placed an appropriately decorated and labeled box at the store in which to deposit donations. (Shown at left)

We encourage all VFW members and friends to drop by the store, purchase a toy and drop it in the box unwrapped. The toys will be collected periodically between now and the pre-Christmas deadline of Dec. 15 and delivered to the United Methodist Church, where the Edmonds Food Bank distributes toys for needy children. Christmas Toy Drive

This has been very successful drive over the past few years and we would like to repeat that success.

Since we are (again) going to be unable to hold our usual joint Legion/VFW Christmas party, we have arranged to collect toys at Teri’s Toybox in downtown Edmonds. Teri Soelter, store owner assures us that this program is a win-win for her and the toy drive and is happy to participate once again. By the time you receive this newsletter, Commander Carl Kurfess will have dropped the appropriately decorated and labeled box off at the store.

We encourage everyone to drop by the store, purchase a toy and drop it in the box. We will collect the toys periodically between now and the pre-Christmas deadline, for delivery to the United Methodist Church, where the Edmonds Food Bank distributes toys for needy children. This was a very successful drive last year which we hope to repeat. (At right is Past Commander Mike Denton with Teri Soelter at the beginning of the 2020 toy drive)
