January Post Meeting

In lieu of a speaker, the Post recognized the following students for their essay submissions:
Our Patriot’s Pen winner – Karsen Friesen 6th Grade was not able to attend.

The 4th grade Youth Essay winner, Calijan Smith, below, left and the 5th grade winner, Eloise Liao at right, are shown in the photos below with Commander Bowen.

Also recognized was our Teacher of the Year, Ali Hammond, who was not able to attend.

January Post Meeting

Business Meeting Started@ 1815 Hrs

The minutes from the 10/18/2023 & the 11/15/2023 meetings were read and approved by the membership. The Quartermaster’s report was reviewed and approved by the membership.
Several expenditures were presented for approval and were so approved by voice vote, including expenditures for Quartermaster supplies, & equipment as well as a new video camera to facilitate the use of Zoom for meetings.

Christmas party meals and cash awards for the VFW Essay winners were also approved.
Two items were added to the Veterans Relief Fund budget; The Captain Joseph House and Sarge’s Place Shelter for the benefit of Gold Star Families and Homeless Veterans.

A proposal was also approved to pay to American Legion Post 66 an annual feel for the use of their building. We will recognize the recipients of the Police/Fire/EMT awards at our next meeting on 02/21/2024.

Mike Reagan has graciously offered to do a portrait of the recipients of the Post Police/Fire/EMT & Teache f the Year as chosen by the Post.

The Minutes from the June Meeting were read and approved. The Quartermaster’s report was reviewed and approved. The following expenditures were approved by the membership. $46.57 for Food$ 31.18 for beverages. The Relief Fund Committee Meeting was scheduled for 07/27/2023 at 5:30PM.

We are scheduled to participate at the Edmonds Community Fair on Sunday, 08/06/2023. The event takes place at the Edmonds/Woodway High School. We can use this as a recruiting event as well as a way to let the public know what we are about and what we do. Dist 1 Commander Terry Stenson District 1 Commander Terry Stenson gave us an update on what is going and what is planned at District.

The next District Meeting@ Post 2100 will be on 08/09/2023.

District 1 will have a Booth at the Evergreen State Fair. Attendance by our Post members will be counted as a recruiting event. The fair runs from 08-24-2023 to 08-29-2023 and from 08-31-2023 to 9-4-2023. We will announce more details at the next meeting.

All members can attend a Everett Aquasox game on 09-09-2023. We will provide more information at the next meeting. Our next meeting is scheduled for 08-16-2023.

November Post Meeting

Heather Peterson, volunteer coordinator for Continuum Hospice. spoke to our November Post meeting about their program. She is looking for Veteran volunteers to meet with Veteran Hospice members so they can talk Veteran to Veteran. No set schedule, volunteer as much or as little as you like. https://continuumwa.com/ 

When you have a chronic illness, you may find yourself feeling overwhelmed as your disease progresses. Continuum Palliative Resources provides home-based palliative care, you will be assigned a Nurse Practitioner to provide home visits to enhance your daily lifestyle through education, medication management and necessary medical tools to support your management of your advanced disease. 

Highlights of Business Meeting

  • One new member, Eric Baum was accepted & one transfer, Jim Armstrong from Post 1040. (We will introduce these member in detail when they have attended their first meetting) 
  • Minutes from the October Meeting were read & approved with no changes. 
  • Quartermaster’s report was reviewed. The following expenditures were approved by the membership. $29.68 for pre-meeting meals, $39.17 for soft drinks. 
  • Community Service Reporting. According to Don Wischmann (District 1 Quartermaster) the reporting is going well. He suggested that we work on combining repeating activities into one report. (As an example, if you you spent 3 hours per day for 3 days during the month you should submit one (1) report for the month showing the total hours.) 
  • Relief Fund was reviewed and is in good shape to meet budgeted commitments. 
  • Service Officer Report. Alden has received several requests for assistance & has been busy directing folks to the help that they need. 
  • We received 3 essays (youth/patriots pen) that will be reviewed and forwarded on to District. 
  • Don Wischmann the District 1 quartermaster did an audit of our post financials found everything in order 
  • The Post Charter was draped for Dick Simmons & Norm Goldstein.
